Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, West ֱ Public Safety Dispatch was alerted that a fire alarm was going off in a home on Cliffmore Road. A few minutes later, a resident called 911 to report that they had run over to a neighbor’s after hearing a loud noise in their home, according to the

Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and found smoke and fire coming from the front of the house, fire officials said.

Everyone was able to escape the home before the blaze spread through multiple rooms. Firefighters put the fire out by 12:07 a.m., the department said.

The home suffered significant smoke damage and was being evaluated by building officials. The fire department said it is “likely uninhabitable.”

“While there is extensive smoke damage, the fire was contained to the immediate few rooms where [it] started and I am very proud of the ‘stop’ that prevented further fire damage,” said fire Chief Greg H. Priest in a statement on Sunday.

The American Medical Response, the West ֱ Police Department and the UConn Fire Department also responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported in the fire and the occupant was being helped by the American Red Cross.

“This incident is an excellent reminder of the value of smoke detectors in reducing or preventing injury, and reducing damage caused by fire,” Priest said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the West ֱ Fire Marshal’s office.
